If there was any doubt that The Trench is an actual film in development, James Wan seems to have put that to bed on Friday night.
Responding to a fan’s general comment on the potential The Trench film, Aquaman director James Wan chimed in saying, “During the early stages of preproduction, I fell in love with the Trench and its designs… and secretly hoped to explore this world further/more.” This isn’t to say, however, that the film is for sure happening as Wan added, “(Now, I’m not confirming or denying this project ;).”
Sure, Mr. Wan. Sure.

It seems pretty clear now that The Trench is actually a film in development. That being said, that doesn’t mean it will definitely arrive in movie theaters. Films go in and out of development constantly, so this may indeed just be an idea being kicked around at the moment.
The information first appeared on Friday in a report from The Hollywood Reporter. According to sources speaking with the trade publication, Noah Gardner and Aidan Fitzgerald are currently on tap to write the screenplay. Wan and Peter Safran are set as producers on what is being labeled a modestly budgeted film.
No word as of yet on a potential release date.
