Zachary Levi is encouraging fans to rise above the “Marvel vs. DC” mentality. During a live video on Instagram, Levi addressed the issue of “review bombing” currently impacting Captain Marvel. Some of the trolls behind this claim to be doing it “on behalf of” Shazam! because its title character was known as Captain Marvel for decades (Marvel and DC have each had heroes called Captain Marvel).
Levi does not want that kind of help, nor does he feel the need for Captain Marvel to be torn down in order for Shazam! to succeed. “For anyone out there who thinks you’re doing me a favor or you’re doing Shazam! a favor, you’re not,” Levi said.
“This is not helping anyone or anything,” he continued. “There is no competition. Just because Shazam used to be called Captain Marvel way back in the day, doesn’t mean that somehow Brie [Larson] or Marvel’s Captain Marvel are pitted against us. Anyone out there who’s holding onto some bone like they need to pick a side and pick a fight is sorely mistaken.”

Levi is the second member of the Shazam! team to speak out against those attacking Captain Marvel. Director David F. Sandberg tweeted on Friday that he looks forward to “Captain Marvel making all the money in the world to shut some of these people up.”
It’s great to see Levi and Sandberg checking bad behavior and encouraging fans to be better people. Captain Marvel and Shazam! are four weeks apart on the release calendar. That’s more than enough space for each one to succeed.
