It looks as though production has begun on the pilot for the Batwoman series proposed for The CW.
Building off the character’s debut in the Elseworlds crossover last year, The CW has ordered a pilot for the Batwoman series. Ruby Rose will be reprising her role, and with production kicking off, she seems excited to share the process with her fans.
First up, late last week she shared a fight training video.
Then she shared some love for all of her costars on the series. “I should be paying to be able to do this “ job “,” she said. “These people are golden. I’ve never become so close to so many souls so quickly. The universe is stunning and beautiful and kind. I am blessed to have this amazing cast, this fantastic role and have people around me who make every day special.” She then specifically called out Rachel Skarsten (Alice), Camrus Johnson (Luke Fox), Megan Tandy (Sophie Moore), Nicole Kang (Mary Hamilton), and Caroline Dries, one of the producers on the series.
Her latest post shares her excitement on the first day and getting to see everyone else’s costumes. While not specifically stated, one would assume there may already be some other hero and villain costumes running around as it’s doubtful Rose would get excited over people in street clothes, but that is a definite assumption.
At this stage, Batwoman hasn’t been picked up to series. First, it will need to shoot the pilot, and then the network will take a look at it and decide if it wants to move on to full production. Even then, it would need to decide if it was giving a 13-episode order (a half-season) or a full season order of 20 or more episodes.
The likelihood of the series moving forward seems high, but we’ll just have to wait and see. It doesn’t appear the date of The CW’s upfront presentation to advertisers has been set yet, but it typically happens in May, and that is when announcements of series pickups are typically made.
Stay tuned!
