Ben Affleck addresses why he walked away from The Batman

Following the announcement that Ben Affleck was retiring as Batman, the actor has been fairly quiet about what all happened. Now he’s out promoting his new Netflix movie, Triple Frontier, and the topic is inevitably coming up.

Speaking with IGN, Max Scoville asked Affleck what his Batman film would have been about, and the answer was pretty candid. “That was part of the problem,” said Affleck. “We worked on the script, I was trying to figure out how to crack it, and I was never happy enough with it where I thought it was worth going out and making it because I just didn’t want to do a version that I wasn’t really excited by, so I still don’t know.”

It sounds to us like he made the right call to step back from writing and directing the film. Matt Reeves seems to know exactly where he wants to take the character, and that is always a better plan than doing something just out of some form of obligation.

While it would have been nice to see Affleck do another turn at the character, it seems we will just always have to wonder what could have been.

Triple Frontier hits theaters on March 6 and Netflix on March 13.
