The team roster for James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad has possibly been revealed. According to sources speaking with Collider, the team mix will include some oddball choices to say the least.
King Shark, one of the most recognizable names on this potential list, is a hulking super-villain. Believed to be the son of the Shark God, he is not someone you mess with.
A bit of a perplexing figure, Peacemaker is someone who believes so staunchly in peace, he’s willing to kill for it. Dave Bautista is rumored to be Gunn’s first choice for this role following the actor’s defense of him following his removal from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
Polka-Dot Man is a villain from Batman’s Rogues Gallery that is capable of growing different colored polka dots on his body that can be turned into weapons. If any character on this list screams, ‘James Gunn picked me,’ it’s probably this one.
In the comics, Ratcatcher is from the pages of Batman as well. Reportedly the character will be genderswapped in the film and we’ll see her as a former exterminator who now controls an army of rats.
As the rumors have indicated, Deadshot is indeed returning, and possibly being played by Idris Elba. He will reportedly be a stand-in father to Ratcatcher.
We checked this lineup against our list of Suicide Squad characters to appear in the comics, and the only two to have been members are King Shark and Deadshot. Meaning Gunn really dug to put this team together.
Harley Quinn is not on the list, but suspicion is that she will indeed return. The sources also did not confirm the Viola Davis rumor about returning as Amanda Waller.
As with any film not yet in production, this information could change at any time. This was reportedly the makeup of the team as of the most recent draft of the script. This sounds as though it will be a very different film from the last one, so now it’s just down to see if there are any connections left to the David Ayer film.
The Suicide Squad is slated to hit theaters on Aug. 6, 2021.
