Batwoman pilot will take us back in time a bit

It seems that the pilot for the Batwoman series is going to turn back the clock slightly on the character so the audience can get some background.

Appearing at the INTV conference in Israel this week, Arrowverse overseer Greg Berlanti spoke a bit about the Batwoman pilot currently shooting in Vancouver. Speaking with Deadline, Berlanti said that the story of the pilot “is grabbing across a set of issues in episodes.”

He went on to explain that the story will also take place prior to the introduction of Kate Kane (Ruby Rose) in the Elseworlds crossover. Berlanti stated that that the story in the pilot is an “origin story that we set up predates the crossover; it’s a story prior to the crossover.”

As Batwoman is still currently in the pilot stage, there is no guarantee that the series will make it to air. However, with the recent announcement that Arrow is ending with a shortened eighth season, it certainly seems as though The CW could use a new banner character.

Batwoman is currently scheduled to feature Rachel Skarsten as the titular character’s arch nemesis, Alice of the Wonderland Gang. Dougray Scott will step in as Kate’s father. Jacob, while Camrus Johnson will play Luke Fox.

The CW hasn’t announced the date of its annual upfront presentation for ad buyers yet, but it usually comes in early to mid-May. Expect a decision on Batwoman around that time.
