It seems that when Wonder Woman 1984 hits screens next year, we may see a different origin for Cheetah.
We’ve known for ages that Cheetah will appear in Wonder Woman 1984, and that Kristen Wiig will be the one portraying her. What we haven’t known, however, is what her origin story would be. In the comics, the Minerva version of Cheetah has had a couple of origins, so there was a lot to pull from. Thanks to a new rumor, however, from Grace Randolph, the film may be going in a new direction.
I’m hearing the origin of #Cheetah in #WW1984 has been totally changed – and that now she’s more of a fan who makes a wish to be like #WonderWoman which goes horribly wrong. How would you feel about that?

There’s no indication what or who Minerva may possibly use to make the wish. It could be a relic, or it could be one of the other Greek gods has come to meddle in the affairs of mortals.
This film, more than most, has been able to hold its secrets. At this point we simply know Cheetah is in the film, with no clue up to know how she gets her powers, or how close it would stick to the original versions.
For now, definitely mark this in the rumor column and we’ll keep an eye on it.
Wonder Woman 1984 will hit theaters on June 5, 2020.
