You can stop working on your Idris Elba as Deadshot cosplay as it appears that he won’t be playing the character.
According to a new report from Variety, Idris Elba is still in The Suicide Squad, but a decision has been made to not include Deadshot in the movie at all. Elba is said to now be playing an entirely different character, but word as of yet to who that may be.
Reportedly the decision was reached by everyone involved that it would be disrespectful to Will Smith who played Deadshot in Suicide Squad. This decision would also leave the door open to Smith possibly returning to the role at some future date.
Warner Bros. had no comment on the report.
The rumored list of new characters doesn’t include any characters that scream to be played by Elba. It’s doubtful Gunn would want to bury him under the makeup necessary for King Shark, and we really can’t see him playing Polka Dot Man. Although the idea of Elba in a suit covered in polka dots is pretty amusing. Perhaps an entirely new character is being added we haven’t heard about yet.
This movie just seems to get crazier by the day.
The Suicide Squad is due to hit theaters on Aug. 6, 2021.
