According to a new report, John Cena is in talks to join James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad.

Sources speaking with Variety have said that Cena is currently in talks to join James Gunn’s follow-up to Suicide Squad. Justin Kroll, the original author of the report, later added via Twitter that it appears Cena is up for the role of Peacemaker and that Dave Bautista is out due to scheduling issues.

The news of Cena is a bit of a change of pace as we just seem to keep hearing about returning cast members.Margot Robbie has been rumored for ages to be back as Harley Quinn. Jai Courtney has been talking up his return as Captain Boomerang this past week. And we’re hearing Viola Davis is coming back as Amanda Waller. And there is even some talk of Joel Kinnaman returning as Flagg.

The lone new cast member we’ve been hearing about is Idris Elba. Originally he was said to be playing Deadshot, but that has now changed.

There is a rumored list of new characters coming to the film that has been floating around since mid-March, and now it’s beginning to sound more and more as though it may be a mixing of teams.

The Suicide Squad is due to hit theaters on Aug. 6, 2021.
