Casting is moving forward on The Suicide Squad, and it appears that David Dastmalchian has won the role of Polka-Dot Man.
According to a new report from The Hollywood Reporter, Dastmalchian has closed a deal to join James Gunn’s upcoming The Suicide Squad. We’ve known Polka-Dot Man was coming to the film since early March, but there hadn’t even been rumors as to who might be taking on the role up to this point.
And if he looks familiar, you would be correct. His first ever movie role was playing one of the Joker’s henchmen in The Dark Knight. He then went on to appear in Ant-Man and Ant-Man and the Wasp. He also played Abra Kadabra on The CW’s The Flash.
From that same report where we learned of Polka-Dot Man coming to the film, we heard about a gender-swapped Ratcatcher, but still no word on who may be taking on that role.
Also mentioned back in that report was Peacemaker being a part of the new team lineup. Originally it was believed the role would go to Dave Bautista, but now it’s appearing John Cena will take on the role due to scheduling conflicts.
What is still up in the air is who Idris Elba is playing. At first, it looked as though he was taking over the role of Deadshot from Will Smith, but now it appears he will be playing someone else.
Actors said to be returning from 2016’s Suicide Squad include Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, and possibly Joel Kinnaman as Flagg.
The Suicide Squad is due to hit theaters on Aug. 6, 2021.
