James Gunn is out on the promotional circuit for the next move he’s producing, and, of course, the topic of The Suicide Squad is coming up.
The next project with Gunn’s name on it is Brightburn, the fairly obvious “what if Superman turned out to be evil” movie. Gunn is only serving as a producer on the film, but with the clout his name carried, he is out on the promotional circuit for it. Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, he was asked for a few words on The Suicide Squad. “I am in pre-production on The Suicide Squad, which I am enormously excited about,” said Gunn.
We had suspected this was the stage Gunn was in thanks to information such as what costume designer he would be using on the film, but you also don’t want to make assumptions.
Currently casting is taking place for The Suicide Squad with the latest rumor being that John Cena is in talks to play Peacemaker. Beyond him, there are quite a few returning cast members.Margot Robbie has been rumored for ages to be back as Harley Quinn. Jai Courtney has been talking up his return as Captain Boomerang this past week. And we’re hearing Viola Davis is coming back as Amanda Waller. And there is even some talk of Joel Kinnaman returning as Flagg.
The only confirmed new cast member it seems is we’ve been hearing about is Idris Elba. Originally he was said to be playing Deadshot, but that has now changed.
There is a rumored list of new characters coming to the film that has been floating around since mid-March, and now it’s beginning to sound more and more as though it may be a mixing of teams.
The Suicide Squad is due to hit theaters on Aug. 6, 2021.
