Matt Reeves Batman casting rumored to take place this week

Since the departure of Ben Affleck from the role of Batman, speculation has run rampant as to who would next don the cowl. With Matt Reeves’ The Batman set to begin production in the fall, a decision is going to have to be made pretty soon.

Thanks to Daniel Richtman, who has a good track record when it comes to news such as this, the casting may be taking place very soon.

To be clear, this does not necessarily mean an announcement to the public will happen this week. This could just be a finalizing of the process internally within the studio and the announcement could come down the road. Our money is still riding pretty hard on San Diego Comic-Con being where the announcement takes place, but we’ll just have to wait and see.

With the ongoing suggestions that Reeves wants to take Batman back a ways in his career, Warner Bros. is more than likely looking for someone it feels will be in this for the long haul. Perhaps not ‘young,’ per se, but someone that the studio and Reeves could get a few movies out of them.

Despite his numerous denials, Armie Hammer’s name continues to come up. His denials are starting to feel a bit like Jason Momoa’s in the time leading up to the announcement of him as Aquaman. We wouldn’t count him out quite yet, but it’s always possible Reeves go with someone none of us see coming.

The Batman is currently pegged for a June 25, 2021 release date.
