It seems that the rumors of Michael Rooker teaming up with James Gunn again may have been a bit premature.

According to reports late in the week, Rooker was in talks to play King Shark in The Suicide Squad. Rooker has appeared in every film Gunn has directed, so it certainly seemed like a strong possibility.

However, it seems those reports may have been a tad off. Rooker took to his Instagram account in the early hours of Saturday morning to state as simply as possible this was incorrect.

“DA………..NOT!!!” seems like about as clear a reply as possible to the news.

This puts us back to square one on the status of King Shark being included in this film. The giant-sized man-shark has been rumored for inclusion in the film since a possible team roster for The Suicide Squad leaked back in March, but no casting rumors around the role have surfaced. At this stage, you have to wonder if he will be included in the film or not.

As it stands right now, David Dastmalchian is confirmed as Polka-Dot Man, Daniela Melchior is rumored for a genderswapped Ratcatcher, and we still have no clear indication who Idris Elba is playing. A new rumor, however, points to his character having a daughter, so that narrows down the field a bit. And the final new character rumor has Benicio del Toro possibly up for the role of the film’s villain.

As for returning cast from 2016’s Suicide Squad include Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, and possibly Joel Kinnaman as Flagg.

The Suicide Squad is due to hit theaters on Aug. 6, 2021.
