Before Alfred Pennyworth became the butler to the Wayne family, he had a history in the British military. And it seems that a fresh out of the service Alfred wants nothing more to do with that life.
Epix has released another Pennyworth teaser, and this time we’re seeing how Alfred (Jack Bannon) explains his violent past to his girlfriend, Esme (Emma Corrin).

It looks as though he may have some issues with keeping that promise.
It’s still not clear if this series is in some way connected to Gotham. It’s from the same creative team, and his speech pattern and accent seems to match that of Sean Pertwee, but we just aren’t sure at this stage.
The idea of a series based around Alfred seemed odd at first, but the more we see of it, the more intrigued we become. We’ll be checking it out for sure.
From Warner Horizon Scripted Television, DC origin story Pennyworth is a ten-episode, one-hour drama series based on DC characters created by Bob Kane with Bill Finger. It follows Bruce Wayne’s legendary butler, Alfred Pennyworth (Jack Bannon), a former British SAS soldier who forms a security company and goes to work with Thomas Wayne (Ben Aldridge), Bruce’s billionaire father, in 1960’s London.
Pennyworth will debut on Epix on July 28.
