Deathstroke animated series in the works for CW Seed

A new Deathstroke animated series is in the works for the CW Seed streaming service.

Announced at the upfront for The CW’s Fall 2019 TV schedule, network president Mark Pedowitz added that Deathstroke would be getting his own animated series on the CW Seed streaming service. Previously the service has had original animated series  Vixen and The Ray.

No details were given about the series, but the two previous series both tied into the characters appearing on the Arrowverse series. In his appearances on Arrow he was played by Manu Bennett, which strongly suggests to us that he will probably end up voicing the character. That is is definitely int he realm of speculation, however.

No timeline was given as to when the series will debut, or how many episodes it will consist of. Vixen got two sets of episodes for a total of 12 with the length running between 4 to 7 minutes per episode. The Ray got the same treatment with episode lengths varying between 6 to 8 minutes each. The actors who played them in live-action – Megalyn Echikunwoke as Vixen and Russell Tovey as The Ray – performed the animated parts as well.

There was a recent departure from this format with Constantine: City of Demons which saw the story play out over multiple episodes, and then finally making its way to other formats such as a home video release. That production did feature Matt Ryan as the voice of Constantine.

If you are unfamiliar with CW Seed, it is a free, ad-supported, streaming service from The CW that you can download on mobile devices and OTT boxes such as Roku.

No word on when Deathstroke will premiere, but we’ll be keeping an eye out for it.
