Robert Pattinson is currently in Cannes promoting his upcoming film, The Lighthouse. So, of course, he’s going to be asked about the Batman rumor.

Cannes is an annual film festival held in Cannes, France that is one of the biggest events of the film industry year. A good showing at Cannes can make a film, while a bad showing can sink it. While there, actors have to stay laser focused on promoting the film that they are there to support, but sometimes you can get sidetracked by outside news.

Pattinson has been rumored to take over the role of Batman in Matt Reeves’ The Batman. Variety said it was a done deal to only have that report adjusted by The Hollywood Reporter and Deadline minutes later. The deal was not done, but Pattinson was indeed in the lead.

Naturally, the topic is coming up as Pattinson makes his way around Cannes. While attending the Vanity Fair party at the Eden Roc Hotel du Cap, Pattinson had come up with a stock answer according to IndieWire. “I am only answering questions about The Lighthouse,” he would say with a smile.

This can be read so many different ways. For all we know, he could have used the same answer if someone wanted to ask him about Water for Elephants. But in the parlance of Hollywood speak, the non-denial denial usually speaks volumes.

There’s no word on when the new Batman actor will be announced, but all eyes are definitely going to be on Pattinson everywhere he goes for the time being.
