Robert Pattinson and Nicholas Hoult reportedly both testing for The Batman

It seems that things aren’t quite as settled in Gotham City as we were led to believe.

Earlier in May, it was reported that Robert Pattinson was the new Batman in Matt Reeves The Batman. This report was followed up minutes later by two other reports saying the deal was not yet done, but it was getting close.

Then later in the month, while attending the Cannes film festival, Pattinson was asked about the role. He replied that he couldn’t discuss it and that he was only answering questions about his current film, The Lighthouse. This, of course, led to more speculation about his status with the film.

Now, Umberto “elmayimbe” Gonzalez is reporting that both Pattinson and Hoult are due to screen test for the role, and it will include them donning one of the Batsuits. (Your guess is as good as ours as to which one)

He goes on to add that production will now start in the first quarter of 2020, which throws some doubt on the report on Thursday about production kicking off in London in the autumn.

It’s getting to the point where we need a scorecard to keep track of all the rumors popping up in regards to The Batman. The good news is, however, that usually where there is smoke, there is indeed fire. With this much activity kicking up in the rumor mill right now, it feels like there truly is some forward momentum at the moment. It would just be nice to see some sort of official announcement at some point.

Pattinson is currently filming Tenet for Christopher Nolan, while Hoult is promoting Tolkien, the biopic of Lord of the Rings author, J.R.R. Tolkien.

With Comic-Con rapidly approaching, perhaps we could cross our fingers for some more solid news at that time, but we won’t hold our breath quite yet.

The Batman is scheduled to hit theaters on June 25, 2021.
