Matt Reeves took to his Twitter account late on Sunday night to post a rather cryptic message that seemingly confirms that Robert Pattinson is indeed the new Batman.
Or doesn’t. You be the judge.
While we would love to say that Reeves tweet featuring a GIF of Pattinson and three bat emoji confirms the actor’s casting, we simply can’t. This is Reeves first comment on the rumors circulating as of late, but the use of three bat emojis aren’t something that would necessarily hold up in court.
Do we feel this is the confirmation we’ve been waiting on? Yes. Can we say without reservation it is a confirmation? No.
With Reeves tweet out in the world, however, it feels a far more formal announcement will be coming at any moment now. It could be hours, or it could be days, we simply don’t know. But it does look as though we will need to get used to saying “Battinson” in regards to this era of Batman.
Matt Reeves is expected to begin shooting his film, The Batman, either in the fall or possibly early winter. It has been described as a noir take on Batman and will feature a heavier emphasis on his detective work than most of his other big screen incarnations.
The most recent reports seem to be indicating that Pattinson will be singing on for a three-film deal as Batman. Other reports are also indicating that Reeves may be planning out a trilogy of Bat-films, so the duo may be working together for some time to come.
Stay tuned as we wait for the official word from Warner Bros. on this casting news.
The Batman is expected to hit theaters on June 25, 2021.
