The Rogues Gallery lineup for The Batman may be adding two more it seems. According to a new report, both the Mad Hatter and Two-Face will also be present and accounted for.
Following up on the report on Wednesday about Firefly and Riddler joining Catwoman and Penguin in Matt Reeves’ The Batman, two more are on the way. Discussing Film is reporting that casting is underway for Mad Hatter to be a male between the ages of 40 and 50, while Two-Face is to be a male between 30 and 40.
There have been rumors of six villains in The Batman for some time now, so this isn’t too surprising. And just because they are looking at actors doesn’t necessarily mean that they will make it to the final film. Characters can be cut as late as the final cut of the film being assembled, so you never consider anything a done deal this early in the production.
It isn’t unprecedented for Batman comics to feature a large number of villains such as in Hush or The Long Halloween, but it is not something you really have seen done effectively in film. The rumored concept for a while has been that Batman will jump from villain to villain, interrogating them to find his way to whichever one of them is the big bad of the story. It sounds interesting, but if it can be carried out effectively is a whole different matter.
Filming on The Batman is said to begin in early 2020, so we should see some casting taking shape in the next few months.
The Batman is scheduled to hit theaters on June 25, 2021.
