Ella Jay Basco discusses Birds of Prey role in new interview

One of the bigger enigmas when it comes to the upcoming Birds of Prey movie has been Ella Jay Basco as Cassandra Cain. This marks her first movie role, and only her seventh credit overall, so no one is quite sure what to expect of her. Basco recently sat down with ABookOf.us to talk the casting process and what it was like working on the film.

From the sounds of it, the selection of who would play the role of Cain was not taken lightly. Basco said, “The audition process was a month long and I had to go in about five times. I watched a bunch of movies, practiced my martial arts skills, and even read some comic books about Cassandra Cain to prepare.” She went on to add, “I was immediately in shock and couldn’t believe it when I booked it! I worked really hard on this role and got emotional because I wanted the part so bad!”

Basco spent a good portion of the interview praising everyone from her stunt double, Marissa Labog, to the ease of working with Margot Robbie. “She is the ultimate professional and takes charge like a boss,” Basco said of her costar. “When we rehearsed, she always made sure I was okay and asked me if I wanted to try something different.  It was definitely intimidating working alongside an A-list actor, but at the same time I was freaking out just meeting Margot.,” she added.

As we draw closer to the release of the film, we’re sure to hear more from the other members of the cast. We’ve recently heard from Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Huntress) in a recent interview, so the door has cracked open. With Margot Robbie starring in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood this month, she’s sure to be out on the promo circuit soon, and hopefully we’ll be hearing more from her as well.

Make sure to head over to ABookOf.us for the rest of Basco’s interview.

The Birds of Prey movie will hit theaters on Feb. 7, 2020.
