Halloween director, John Carpenter, to co-write Joker comic

John Carpenter, the filmmaker behind Halloween, They Live, The Thing, and many other classics will be co-writing The Joker: Year of the Villain #1, a 40-page one-shot issue that ties into the ongoing Year of the Villain storyline. Anthony Burch, writer of the video games Borderlands 2 and League of Legends, will co-author while artists Philip Tan and Marc Deering handle the visuals. Carpenter and Burch previously worked together on Big Trouble in Little China: Old Man Jack for Boom! studios, but this will be their first DC team-up.

Year of the Villain is the next major DC Universe crossover event, seeing Lex Luthor– who recently faked his own death and became a human/Martian hybrid– bestowing his fortune and assets on the most evil characters in the DC Universe so that they may finally achieve their wildest, most sinister fantasies. Some bad guys will accept Lex Luthor’s gifts, others won’t, and when it comes to Joker, he’s definitely too proud to accept anybody’s charity. In Carpenter and Burch’s story, Joker will set out to prove that he is indeed the worst (or best?) villain without Luthor’s assistance.

The Joker: Year of the Villain #1 will be released digitally and in comic shops everywhere on October 9th, 2019.
