Constantine is going to have to spend a bit more time facing his past as Astra will be sticking around for all of season 5 it seems.
Entertainment Weekly is reporting that Olivia Swann has been upped to a series regular for season 5 of Legends of Tomorrow. She was introduced in season 4 as Astra, Constantine’s (Matt Ryan) greatest failure as he had sent her to Hell when she was a child. It turns out she has grown to an adult there, and now she has her eyes set on becoming the top dog down there.
As season 4 ended, Astra released the souls of historical bad guys such as Genghis Khan and Charles Manson, and that is what the Legends will be spending the season cleaning up.
“A lot of what Constantine is going to be dealing with this season is his very complicated relationship with [Astra] and a desire to save her despite all the pain and trouble she’s putting us through,” executive producer Keto Shimizu said.
It’s a nice nod to the past as Astra was brought up frequently on Ryan’s Constantine series that aired over at NBC. While that series will never get a conclusion all to itself, this could help soothe some of those lingering issues for fans of the series.
Legends of Tomorrow will return on The CW in 2020.
