If you’re doing the math and trying to figure out if Black Adam and Shazam 2 will synch up properly for a crossover, it appears you can stop worrying. It won’t be happening at that point.
Zachary Levi appeared at the CCXP Cologne convention in Germany recently, and during a Q&A he cleared things up a bit about the Black Adam plans a bit. “I can say that as far as I know, Black Adam is not going to be in the second Shazam!, because the idea is that they want to go and do a standalone Black Adam movie first,” said Levi. He went on to add, “And then it would kind of be, if we do a third Shazam! and a second Black Adam, kind of [parallel] like that, that’s where we would [meet].”
Levi knows that people don’t like to wait, but he had an explanation for the plan saying, “Because he’s like the ultimate bad guy for Captain Marvel, Shazam. Like [Shazam and] Black Adam, they’re doppelgängers right, the evil twin to who I am. So that’s got to be like the final battle.” He went on to add, “If we do that in the second movie, then where do we go after that? It would just be a movie of us sitting around playing video games for the third one, that would be very boring. Or not [laughs]. I’m a very interesting video game player. So yeah, I think that’s the idea. We’ll definitely [cross over] — the plan is to get there, but just to pace it out however it needs to pace out.”
Certainly, none of us want to wait that long, but when Levi spells it out like this, we can’t say the plan is exactly wrong, either.
It sounds as though Warner Bros. has some ambitious plans for the Shazam! franchise if this is the plan the studio sticks with.
Black Adam will reportedly begin filming in the first half of 2020. The schedule for Shazam! 2 is currently expected to film in late spring or early summer 2020.
