Vanessa Kirby addresses Catwoman casting rumors for The Batman

Vanessa Kirby is out on the publicity circuit for Hobbs & Shaw, and that, of course, means those Catwoman rumors are going to come up.

Earlier in July rumors began circulating that Kirby may be up for the role of Catwoman in Matt Reeves upcoming The Batman. While hitting the red carpet at the premiere of Hobbs & Shaw, Entertainment Tonight asked her about the rumors. “I don’t know anything about it,” said Kirby. She did, however, seem rather interested in the role when asked if she would be willing to take it on. “Are you kidding?! I would love to be Catwoman. Oh my god, it would be a dream.”

She also seems keenly aware of the demand the part would part on her physically. “Oh my god, are you kidding? I have to do lots of squats,” Kirby said. “I mean, literally, lots of squats.”

We’re reminded of how Jason Mamoa denied any involvement with the role of Aquaman for nearly a year before it was finally announced. This isn’t to say we feel she has the role and is just hiding it, but if she’s even in contention, she will deny it for now.

With six villains said to be in The Batman, we’re going to be going through several rounds of shortlisted actors. Be prepared as the summer months progress. If you thought the road to Robert Pattinson becoming Batman was a long one, we’re just getting started.

The Batman is scheduled to hit theaters on June 25, 2021.
