
A few months ago, the long-running, free-to-play massive multiplayer online game announced that it would come to the Nintendo Switch this summer, but that was a little bit vague, no? At San Diego Comic-Con, DC Universe Online gave a definitive release date of August 6th, 2019 for Nintendo’s latest console.
This August, jump headlong into DCUO’s massively multiplayer world, constantly expanding storylines, and iconic DC locations.
Fight with and against over 300 DC characters across over 30 content episodes and over 100 free game updates.

In addition to announcing a release date, DC Universe Online also teased new content. Upcoming episodes titled Metal Part I and Metal Part II are based on Scott Snyder & Greg Capullo’s mini-series Dark Nights: Metal, which featured almost every DC hero unite to defeat the evil Bat-god Barbatos and a horde of evil Batmen originating from the horrific Dark Multiverse. Metal Part I will launch this September on PC, Playstation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. Full details can be found below:
In METAL PART I
Batman has breached the barrier between our world and the Dark Multiverse, and then disappeared. In through the breach storm the Dark Knights, twisted versions of Batman hell-bent on revenge. What is this Dark Multiverse? Who are these Batmen? How can they be stopped?
- The answers lie in the exceptionally rare forms of Metal that the Dark Knights seek, Metal which must be found and returned before our world melts into the Darkness.
- Metal Part I will be a large-scale episode, with level-agnostic event versions of content available to all players for a limited time.
- The episode will feature new and returning heroes and villains, including The Red Death, The Merciless, and The Batman Who Laughs.
- The storyline will include single player and multiplayer adventures set in iconic but twisted locales as our universe descends.
- The episode will launch new player rewards, including new gear, styles, artifacts, base items, and feats.
In METAL PART II
The saga of the Dark Knights, the Dark Multiverse, and Metal will come to an explosive conclusion. The Bat-God Barbatos has waited since the dawn of the universe for this moment, and it seems nothing can stand in his way.
- Metal Part II will be a large-scale episode, with level-agnostic event versions of content available to all players for a limited time.
- The episode will feature new and returning heroes and villains, including the Bat-God Barbatos.
- The storyline will include singleplayer and multiplayer adventures set in locales too terrifying to be revealed now (spoilers).
- The episode will launch new player rewards, including new gear, styles, artifacts, base items, and feats.
The Switch version of DC Universe Online will launch on its own band-new server, separate from all other communities, however, the game’s official site explains that they intend to explore crossplay options in the future. Also, since your Nintendo Account will be required to connect, longtime players will not be able to link existing profiles from other consoles.
