It has been known for ages that Marc Maron is playing a role in Joker, but we had no clue who he would be playing. Appearing on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert we finally have at least some idea.
From the sounds of it, we will only see him in terms of the Joker’s appearance on Murray Franklin’s (Robert De Niro) talk show. It had been widely speculated that his role would be a minor one, and that seems to be the case.
Joker is currently gearing up for the 2020 festival season and will be in competition at the Venice Film Festival. This will be followed up by inclusion at the Toronto International Film Festival where Joaquin Phoenix will also receive an acting award.
The long-range box office projections are placing Joker with an opening weekend of $60 to $90 million, and a domestic box office total of $175 million.
It’s going to be an interesting few months as we see what Todd Phillips plan of doing a film about the origin of the Joker really plays out with audiences around the world.
Joker will hit wide theatrical release on Oct. 4.
