Joaquin Phoenix discusses his Joker laugh in new interview

One of the biggest reveals still being hidden about Joker is what Joaquin Phoenix’s laugh will sound like. There was one set video leaked that may have featured his laugh, but as he was not on camera, it couldn’t be verified.

We may still not have heard it, but at least Phoenix is discussing it. In a new interview in Il Venerdi, the weekly magazine version of the Italian newspaper La Repubblica, Phoenix said, “I started [with the laugh],” when discussing how he created his version of the Joker. “I watched videos of people suffering from pathological laughter, a neurological disorder that makes individuals laugh uncontrollably.”

It should be noted that this information was translated from Italian, so there may be minor discrepancies in the actual quotes.

There is no official word as of right now as to when we will be seeing a second trailer for Joker. We simply know that it is on the way. The question, of course, is if we will get to hear the laugh this time, or if that is something they will want to save for the theater. We’ll just have to wait and see.

Joker is currently gearing up for the 2020 festival season and will be in competition at the Venice Film Festival. This will be followed up by inclusion at the Toronto International Film Festival where Joaquin Phoenix will also receive an acting award.

The long-range box office projections are placing Joker with an opening weekend of $60 to $90 million, and a domestic box office total of $175 million.

It’s going to be an interesting few months as we see what Todd Phillips plan of doing a film about the origin of the Joker really plays out with audiences around the world.

Joker will hit wide theatrical release on Oct. 4.
