It would seem that James Gunn has a new favorite past time: Teasing fans that King Shark is going to be in The Suicide Squad.
Rumors have been circulating for some time now that King Shark would be in The Suicide Squad, but nothing has been confirmed. At one time there were rumors that Michael Rooker would play the role, but those were quickly denied by the actor. Since then things have been fairly quiet in regards to the monstrous villain.
Then, earlier this month, the teasing started. In what everyone figured was a one-off, Gunn was given King Shark themed birthday cakes when he turned 53. Now comes the revelation that Gunn has worked with Microsoft to set up an arcade for the cast and crew to enjoy on the set of The Suicide Squad. The name of the arcade? The King Skarkade.
As you flip through the images, you will also note he’s spelling out “King Shark” on a Scrabble board. And, yes, it is intersecting with “Harley,” and, no, Margot Robbie has still not been confirmed to be in the film officially.
Production is set to take place in Atlanta, Georgia, and it’s expected to kick-off in September.
Even with production so close to commencing, we still don’t have a solid lock on the cast. Currently, Joel Kinnaman looks to be returning as Flagg, and word is that Viola Davis will also reprise her role as Amanda Waller.
As to new characters, David Dastmalchian is confirmed as Polka-Dot Man, Daniela Melchior is rumored for a genderswapped Ratcatcher, and we still have no clear indication who Idris Elba is playing. A new rumor, however, points to his character having a daughter, so that narrows down the field a bit. And the final new character rumor has Benicio del Toro possibly up for the role of the film’s villain.
The Suicide Squad is due to hit theaters on Aug. 6, 2021.
