Joker scores a screening at New York Film Fest

The upcoming Joker movie has scored another special showing. It was announced on Friday that Joker will screen at New York Film Fest this fall.

This new screening marks just the latest such announcement for the upcoming film. Previously we had learned it will screen at both the Venice Film Festival and Toronto International Film Festival. The screening at NYFF will be before the Oct. 4 wide release and will include a Q&A session following the film with Todd Phillips, Joaquin Phoenix, and additional members of the film’s creative team.

It was revealed this week that the film has indeed received the long-promised R rating. The reasons for the R designation included:

STRONG BLOODY VIOLENCE, DISTURBING BEHAVIOR, LANGUAGE AND BRIEF SEXUAL IMAGES

The earliest projections for the opening weekend box office pegged the film to open $60 to $90 million range. That forecast has now increased to the $70 million to $95 million range, but it is still considered long-range and uncertain. There was a time when an R rating would impact a film negatively, especially a comic book film. That, however, all changed with Deadpool, and while these films couldn’t be any more different in tone, it certainly opened a door.

No matter how you slice it, the buzz is definitely building for Joker, and we can’t wait to see Joaquin Phoenix’s portrayal of the Clown Prince of Crime.

Joker will hit theaters on Oct. 4.
