James Gunn seems to be recruiting his usual suspects this weekend. The latest addition reportedly joining The Suicide Squad is Nathan Fillion.
Fillion (Firefly, The Rookie), has appeared in multiple Gunn films over the years including Slither and Super. Who – or what – Fillion will be playing in The Suicide Squad is under wraps for now. However, with his current series, The Rookie, returning to TV on Sept. 29, he can’t be available to film for long periods of time on a film. He could potentially be just a cameo, or he may be providing a voice for a character.
The addition of Fillion is the second rumored this weekend with Steve Agee being rumored earlier as the voice of King Shark. Last week also saw Flula Borg joining earlier as the love interest for one of the characters.
Even with production so close to commencing – reportedly on Sept. 23 – we still don’t have a solid lock on the cast. Currently, Joel Kinnaman looks to be returning as Flagg, and word is that Viola Davis will also reprise her role as Amanda Waller.
As to new characters, David Dastmalchian is confirmed as Polka-Dot Man, Daniela Melchior is rumored for a genderswapped Ratcatcher, and we still have no clear indication who Idris Elba is playing. A new rumor, however, points to his character having a daughter, so that narrows down the field a bit. And the final new character rumor has Benicio del Toro possibly up for the role of the film’s villain.
The Suicide Squad is due to hit theaters on Aug. 6, 2021.
