If you’ve been missing the Batman games by Telltale, it seems that you have some hope of playing them once again.
Telltale Games shut down in late 2018 after a wave of layoffs. The remnants of the company have been purchased by LCG Entertainment, and now it seems the company is preparing to revive some of the titles.
While Telltale lost the rights to some games such as The Walking Dead and the unfinished Stranger Things title, it did manage to retain some of them. Chief among those properties is The Wolf Among Us and Batman.
The new version of Telltale is being headed up by Jamie Ottilie and Brian Waddle. Speaking with Polygon, the pair said that it is possible that some of the laid-off staff will be brought back on a freelance basis at first with full-time positions possibly being offered later. “This is a viable business that went away due to market conditions and some scale choices [Telltale’s previous management] made,” said Ottilie. “I like games that tell stories and I think our industry should have a company that specializes in narrative-driven games.”
Telltale Games will now be based out of Malibu, California and is looking to stay small for the first six months or so as it works out the kinks of reviving the company.
With the rights to Batman games still in the company’s possession, it seems inevitable we’ll get a new game based on the Caped Crusader. The only question now is when exactly it will happen.
