Joker just had its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival where it received an 8-minute standing ovation. It also led to the first Joker reviews being released which have been generally positive with a few outlying negative ones. In general, however, there has been universal praise for Joaquin Phoenix’s portrayal of the Clown Prince of Crime.
The film already has slots secured slots at the Toronto International Film Festival and the New York Film Fest. It seems as though it’s going to show just about everywhere it can, and this should definitely increase its hopes when awards season rolls around for the Golden Globes and Academy Awards. Only time will tell on those fronts.
Joker hits theaters on Oct. 4.
