Despite screenshots leaking out last week, and copies of it showing up just about everywhere you look, the Birds of Prey teaser is intended for theaters only.
Speaking with Warner Bros., Variety has confirmed that the Birds of Prey teaser is intended to only run in theaters with IT: Chapter Two this weekend. This isn’t too surprising as it opens with what looks to be Pennywise the clown from IT approaching red balloons before it morphs into Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie). She smashes the ballons with her sledgehammer before saying, “I’m so f—ing over clowns.” Clearly a reference to the Joker, but Pennywise as well at the same time.
Rumors have been circulating for some time now that a full trailer will be attached to Joker when it hits theaters on Oct. 4, but we’ll just have to wait to see if that manifests.
Currently, Birds of Prey is in the midst of its planned reshoots which will include some additional action scenes overseen by John Wick director Chad Stahelski.
Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) will be the first appearance of Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn since Suicide Squad. She will be joined by Mary Elizabeth Winstead as the Huntress, while Jurnee Smollett-Bell will be playing Black Canary. Rosie Perez will be playing Renee Montoya, and Ella Jay Basco as Cassandra Cain as well. And Ewan McGregor joined the cast as Gotham City villain Black Mask.
The Birds of Prey movie is scheduled to hit theaters on Feb. 7, 2020.
