With the news that Robert Pattinson is joining the pantheon of actors to play Batman, it’s time for all of the former men to don the cowl to be asked if they have advice for him. With Ford v Ferrari showing at the Toronto International Film Festival, it means that Christian Bale is in attendance and it’s his turn to face the question.
At the outset of the segment with Variety, Bale is asked what he thinks about Pattinson as Batman, and Bale appears to give a very enthusiastic “Oh, good,” accompanied by a thumb’s up. He goes on to praise him for a few seconds before we get down to the very series question about tips for the role.
Asked what his advice was for Pattinson, Bale replied, “Oh the same as for Ben [Affleck], just be able to pee by yourself. You don’t feel much like a superhero when you can’t take a piss by yourself.”
Seems like sage advice to us.
While it’s true that Bale offered up the same advice for Affleck in the past, this still seems to be a constant problem that plagues superhero films. One would think that will of the advances in textiles, 3D printing, and so on, that a costume designer will finally be able to solve this issue. Perhaps Pattinson will be the first, but we’ll just have to wait for the post-production interviews to find out.
Matt Reeves’ The Batman is due to hit theaters on June 25, 2021.
