As fans still bask in the glow of James Gunn finally announcing the cast for The Suicide Squad, questions still linger. Namely, who are all of these fabulous talents going to play? Well, it seems we may not know that for some time just yet.
Gunn was asked by a fan on Twitter when we might see a character list, and it doesn’t appear to be any time soon. “Some characters will get out,” said Gunn. “Some already have (although some reported on, including from reputable sources, have been very wrong). But, in all honesty, I don’t know if we’ll officially release character info for a long long while to come.”

This is interesting as rumors have been circulating about potential characters for ages now. That means, of the incoming characters, the only one we might call confirmed is David Dastmalchian as Polka-Dot Man as he confirmed that information himself. Of course, now you even have to wonder if that is accurate. There’s every chance Gunn may have told him to roll with it to hide who he is really playing.
At this stage, about the only thing that we can feel confirmed on is the returning actors: Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn), Viola Davis (Amanda Waller), Jai Courtney (Captain Boomerang), and Joel Kinnaman (Flag). Beyond those four, it’s not a guessing game of which rumored characters were even correct and which weren’t.
It sounds as though we’re in for a few more months of guessing games.
The Suicide Squad will begin filming this month and is scheduled to hit theaters on Aug. 6, 2021.
