Tom Welling to reprise his role as Clark Kent in Crisis on Infinite Earths

Tom Welling - Smallville - 01

Tom Welling is heading to the Arrowverse for the Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover.

The number of Supermen heading to the Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover now stands at three. Tyler Hoechlin has been playing Superman in the Arrowverse for a few years now. Then we learned that Brandon Routh will once again become the last Son of Krypton for the event. And comes word that Smallville’s very own Clark Kent, Tom Welling, will be joining in on the event.

“For eight years, Arrow has stood on the shoulders of Smallville. Simply put, there would be no Arrow, and no Arrowverse, without it,” Arrow co-creator/executive producer Marc Guggenheim said in a statement to Deadline. “So when we first started talking about Crisis on Infinite Earths, our first, second and third priorities were getting Tom to reprise his iconic role as Clark Kent. To say that we’re thrilled would be a Superman-sized understatement.”

Talks reportedly began over the summer with Welling being hesitant to revisit the character. Finally winning him over, this will be Welling’s first time revisiting the character since the ending of Smallville.

The five-part crossover will see all of the DC shows on The CW uniting to take on a common threat. What state the Arrowverse will find itself in once it’s over remains to be seen.
