Jared Leto reportedly upset over Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker

It seems that Jared Leto may have been a little less than thrilled about the Joker movie.

Following 2016’s Suicide Squad, there was a lot of talk about what would happen with Jared Leto’s rendition of the Joker. Some rumors pointed to a solo movie. Other stories suggested a Joker and Harley movie as a possibility. There was a lot of talk, but not a lot of movement.

Then along came talk of a completely separate Joker movie starring Joaquin Phoenix and with that in theaters now, it leaves questions.

According to a new report from The Hollywood Reporter, Leto was left “alienated and upset by the move.” There’s no indication if this was reported by sources or is speculation, but it is the wording in the article.

Where we stand right now is with the possibility of two Jokers. We know that a scene was shot for Birds of Prey with a stand-in for Leto’s Joker. There has been some speculation that Leto may provide a voiceover for this scene, but that is unconfirmed at this time.

As it stands, we have two distinctly different Jokers in movies, and we can definitely see where that might lead to one of them feeling “upset.” There is no question that Leto put a ton of work into developing his character, and for it to be a one-time affair because a shiny new toy comes along would definitely leave one with some questions.

Where a cinematic Joker goes from here is anyone’s guess.
