UPDATE: Matt Reeves has confirmed news as he tends to with a tweet. He confirms Dano as well as the change to the Riddler’s name.

The original post follows.

Matt Reeves has found his Riddler for The Batman, and it’s Paul Dano.

It was revealed on Thursday that Dano will be taking on the role of The Riddler, but there will be a minor change to the character. Instead of the usual name of Edward Nygma, he will instead be named Edward Nashton according to The Hollywood Reporter. No reason for the name change has been given.

Dano was recently nominated for an Emmy for his role in Escape at Dannemora. He also co-wrote, produced, and directed the critically-acclaimed Wildlife. His acting roles include films such as 12 Years a Slave, There Will Be Blood, and Okja.

According to a report from Variety, due to the length of the negotiations with Jonah Hill, that an offer was prepared for Dano to be able to go out immediately should those talks fall apart. With those talks now dead, and Hill having been rumored for the Rillder or Penguin, one has to wonder if a similar deal is waiting in the wings for a Penguin actor.

Dano, should the deal be sealed, will be joining Robert Pattinson as Batman, Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, and Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon.

The Batman is scheduled to hit theaters on June 25, 2021.
