Attendees at London’s Royal Albert Hall got a bit of a surprise on Friday as they were the first to officially know that Michael Giacchino will compose The Batman.
During a concert at the famous venue, composers Michael Giacchino and David Arnold were engaged in some friendly banter about their resumes and trying to one-up one another. As the segment when on, Matt Reeves appeared on stage, got down on one knee, and asked Giacchino if he would like to compose the score for The Batman.

The announcement is not really a surprise as Reeves and Giacchino have a track record of working together dating back to 2008’s Cloverfield. They further partnered on Let Me In, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, and War for the Planet of the Apes. Giacchino has used his skills at Disney on films such as The Incredibles and the upcoming Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
Giacchino joins the likes of Hans Zimmer who scored Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy, Junkie XL that worked with Zack Snyder on Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Danny Elfman on Tim Burton’s films.
The Batman is slowly taking shape with Robert Pattinson as Batman, Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Dano as The Riddler, and Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon.
The Batman is scheduled to hit theaters on June 25, 2021.
