Patty Jenkins confirms Maxwell Lord in Wonder Woman 1984

Just as fans have suspected, Maxwell Lord will indeed be in Wonder Woman 1984.

Patty Jenkins took to her Twitter account to share a welcoming message to the character with an image of him from the comics.

It has been widely suspected since Jenkins shared a photo of Pedro Pascal from filming, that this would be the character he’s playing. It’s worth noting that Jenkins also tagged the actor in her tweet. It’s always nice to get confirmation no matter how sure we were of a piece of information.

Lord first appeared in the comics in 1987’s Justice League #1 and was created by Keith Giffen, J. M. DeMatteis, and Kevin Maguire. At that time, Lord was a conman doing the bidding of Metron (later revealed to be Kilg%re) to assemble a global peacekeeping force. It was, of course, all part of a plan to take over the world.

During the “Invasion!” storyline, Lord had his latent metagenes activated giving him some low-level telepathic abilities.

Throughout those early appearances, he was always a slick businessman that manipulated people. It is unknown if his Metahuman abilities will be used in Wonder Woman 1984, but we’re willing to bet he will. If for no other reason than Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman just needs that much more of a challenge.

It was recently revealed that the first Wonder Woman 1984 trailer will debut at the CCXP convention in Brazil on Dec. 8. The film will hit theaters on June 5, 2020.
