According to a new report, Andy Serkis may be teaming up with Matt Reeves yet again, and this time in the role of Alfred.
The Wrap is reporting that Serkis (Black Panther, War for the Planet of the Apes), is in talks to play Alfred Pennyworth in Matt Reeves’ The Batman.
Serkis and Reeves have worked together previously on Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and War for the Planet of the Apes. While Serkis is famous for his motion-capture work, he has also been doing more standard acting, and has also been directing more films. He is currently in pre-production on Venom 2 for Sony where he will direct the Tom Hardy follow-up.
That current directing gig is our biggest question mark to him taking on this role due to his schedule. It’s possible Alfred will have a very small role meaning he would only be needed for a very short period, but that wouldn’t be a giant surprise.
As the Batman continues to inch ever closer, the cast is filling out with Robert Pattinson as Batman, Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Dano as The Riddler, and, most recently, Jeffrey Wright finally being confirmed as Commissioner Gordon.
The Batman is scheduled to hit theaters on June 25, 2021.
