The rumors were indeed true, and Andy Serkis will be playing Alfred in The Batman.
Following on from reports in early Nov., Matt Reeves has taken to his Twitter account to confirm that Andy Serkis will be playing Alfred Pennyworth in The Batman.
Serkis and Reeves worked together previously on Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and War for the Planet of the Apes, which more than likely led to further collaboration. Considering that Serkis is currently in pre-production on Venom 2 for Sony, he has a busy few months ahead of him. How Serkis will balance the two projects remains to be seen.
As The Batman continues to inch ever closer, the cast is filling out with Robert Pattinson as Batman, Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Dano as The Riddler, Jeffrey Wright finally being confirmed as Commissioner Gordon, and newcomer Jayme Lawson in what is reportedly an original role as a politician named Bella.
There’s still more cast to fill out, and, of course, the introduction of the Batsuit and Batmobile.
The Batman is scheduled to hit theaters on June 25, 2021.
