Matt Reeves took to his Twitter account on Friday afternoon to welcome Peter Sarsgaard to the cast of The Batman.

The tweet simply said, “Oh… Hi, Peter…” followed by the bat emoji. What we don’t know is who he will be playing yet.

While Sarsgaard has had a large and varied career, he is probably best known for his role of Dr. Hector Hammon in 2011’s Green Lantern film. While this is a DC property as well, we feel confident he is not reprising that role in this film.

Some speculation is pointing towards the role of Harvey Dent, but that is far from confirmed at this point. We’ll be keeping an eye out for more information for sure.

As The Batman continues to inch ever closer, the cast is filling out. Joining Pattinson will be Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Dano as The Riddler, Jeffrey Wright finally as Commissioner Gordon, Andy Serkis as Alfred, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, and newcomer Jayme Lawson in what is reportedly an original role as a politician named Bella.

There’s still more cast to fill out, and, of course, the introduction of the Batsuit and Batmobile.

The Batman is scheduled to hit theaters on June 25, 2021.
