The 77th annual Golden Globe Awards were held on Sunday night in Hollywood, and Joker ended up going home with two of the statues.
The first award for Joker went to Hildur Guđnadóttir who won the award for Best Original Score for her work on Joker.
Later in the evening, Joaquin Phoenix won in the Best Actor in a Motion Picture — Drama category.
Joker was up for two more awards, but didn’t pick up either of the statues. Todd Phillips was up for Best Director — Motion Picture, but the award went to Sam Mendes for 1917. Joker also fell before the war epic when it came to Best Motion Picture – Drama. Mendes’ ambitious film appears as though it is going to be a difficult one to overcome throughout the remainder of the awards season.
Voting for the nomination phase of the Academy Awards is about to close. Those nominations will then be announced on Jan. 13. While the Golden Globes are not always the best indicator of how the Academy Awards will play out, it still lets us know that Joker is very much still in the race.
Congratulations to all of the winners!
