Ava DuVernay shares brief update on New Gods

Director Ava DuVernay shares a brief update on the status of her New Gods movie and some of her thoughts on fan casting.

It has been a little while since we have heard any updates on the status of the New Gods movie. Last July, DuVernay teamed up with Tom King the week after San Diego Comic-Con to work on the script. A little over a week later she discussed early casting news, and then teased the inclusion of Darkseid and the Furies. Since then, things have been fairly quiet.

Now DuVernay has returned with a brief update following a question from a fan on Twitter. “Working on the script with (Tom King) and dreaming of actors,” she said. “Seeing most of the incredible fan casting that’s going on. May in fact be taking some notes.”

Considering the number of fan casting posts we’ve seen, we wouldn’t lock onto any specific one you may have come across.

There’s still no word on when we should expect the New Gods movie, but with Warner Bros. DC slate rapidly filling up through the end of 2022, we’re now leaning towards 2023 unless something moves. This is, however, pure speculation on our part.

Now if we could just get some hints to casting.
