David Ayer says Gotham City Sirens is “on pause”

If you’ve been wondering what ever happened to the proposed Gotham City Sirens film, we finally have an update for you.

Around the release of Suicide Squad, a lot of potential future films were discussed, most of them involving Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn in some way. While Birds of Prey is only a month away, it appears it is the only one from that mountain of films that we will be seeing any time soon.

David Ayer recently spoke with Slash Film about a host of topics, and was asked point blank about his status with the Gotham City Sirens film. “No, I think it’s on pause,” said the director.

Ayer did reveal that he was offered a Suicide Squad sequel, saying, “I had a chance to do it, but I went another way.”

With all of this currently out of his system, Ayer doesn’t think he is done with comic book films in general saying, “I love the world creation of it and I love the power of the IP and the fans,”  adding, “It’s dangerous. It’s like juggling chainsaws, but I am drawn to it and it’s definitely an arena I’ll play in again.”

Will we ever see the combination of Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy, and Catwoman on the big screen? For now we’ll just have to wait and see. Something tells us, though, that if Birds of Prey is a hit it will be back on the table.
