Production on The Suicide Squad continues, but don’t expect anyone to go revealing their roles in the film just yet.
John Cena is out doing some promotional work for his voiceover role in Dolittle.and that means it’s also an opportunity to ask about his work on The Suicide Squad. Collider recently sat down with Cena and did just that.
It seems that Cena’s first reaction to the script was a positive one, saying, “I was blown away. The first 10 pages [are] like a movie in itself. It’s really, really special. That’s because the guy steering the ship [James Gunn] is committed to narrative and committed to creating characters that we connect with and sending them on an awesome journey. I mean what he did with [Guardians of the Galaxy] is really special.”
And what sort of character will he be? Well, we know he wears an ‘awesome’ costume. Asked what it was like putting it on for the first time, Cena replied, “Awesome. Awesome. There’s folklore about like, ‘Yeah kid, wait till you do a superhero movie.’ I guess I’m used to my costume being jean shorts and a tee shirt. So, it’s a nice little change up that I didn’t have to wear a ball cap and wristbands, but it was really cool.”
Cena shared some more thoughts on working with Gunn and what the process is like in the interview, and it’s definitely worth checking out. We just wish the secrecy would end already and we knew who everyone is playing.
Filming has been underway on The Suicide Squad since September, and it will hit theaters on Aug. 6, 2021.
