It’s been some time since we heard anything about the DMZ series coming to HBO Max, but it came back in a big way. Rosario Dawson (Luke Cage, Zombieland: Double Tap) has signed on to play the lead role.
It was announced last Oct. that HBO Max had ordered a pilot for DMZ based on the DC comic series of the same name. The series is being spearheaded by Ava DeVernay and Westworld executive producer Roberto Patino.
Published by Vertigo, the Brian Wood and Riccardo Burchielli series was set in the near future after the United States had fallen into a civil war. The island of Manhattan becomes a demilitarized zone between the two sides and becomes isolated from the rest of the world.
Dawson has signed on to play Alma, a medic who saves lives throughout the DMZ while searching for her son. Along the way she will encounter warlords, militias, and more people that stand between her and her goals.
As it stands right now, DMZ only has a pilot order, but should HBO Max like what they see, it will move on to a series.
No word as of yet as to when the pilot will film. Dawson will next be seen in USA’s Briarpatch.
