According to a new report, the first exclusive HBO Max movie may be coming from an unexpected corner of the DC universe.
FandomWire is reporting that HBO Max is moving forward based on Rose and Thorn from DC. The film will follow teenager Rose as she attempts to move on with her life following the death of her father. However, she has a split personality named Thorn that wants to track down her father’s murders and bring them to justice. While Rose just wants a normal teenage existence, Thorn is prone to lashing out in violence.
Thorn has actually been around DC since 1947 when she first battled the Golden Age Flash in Flash Comics #89. It looks as though the film will be based on the New 52 incarnation of the character which had a six-issue limited series written by Gail Simone.
If accurate, this is just the latest DC project on the docket for HBO Max. Confirmed so far are a Green Lantern series as well as animated series of Aquaman and DC Superhero High. Doom Patrol will also be shown on HBO Max following premieres on DC Universe, and a DMZ pilot has been ordered.
For now, we recommend taking this information with a grain of salt as the site does not have a track record as of yet. But if true, it shows an interesting road ahead for HBO Max as it may be willing to dive deep for interesting characters.
HBO Max will launch in May 2020.
