In an unexpected twist, Netflix is reportedly trying to talk the producers of Lucifer into a sixth season.
After airing on Fox for three seasons, Lucifer was canceled. It was saved weeks later by Netflix for a fourth season. The series was shortly renewed for a fifth and final season following the premiere of season 4. The decision to end the series was the doing of the producers of the series, and not Netflix. Netflix then went back and talked with the producers about adding additional episodes to season 5 and an agreement was reached.
Now, with only weeks left to production of season 5, Netflix is reportedly trying to talk the producers into a sixth season. Warner Bros. has yet to comment on the discussions.
While many series would be thrilled to be so wanted, this could present problems for Lucifer. “We are so incredibly thankful to Netflix for resurrecting our show last season, and now letting us finish the story of Lucifer on our terms,” co-showrunners Joe Henderson and Ildy Modrovich said in a statement upon the season 5 renewal. “Most importantly, we want to thank the fans for their incredible passion and support. The best is yet to come!”
If this is where the showrunners wanted to end the series, would a season 6 just ruin those plans? Can it be retooled in time? We’ll just have to wait and see what decision is made.
No premiere date has been announced for Lucifer season 5 as of yet.
